Stereotypes are reinforced by the media, because these people see this, they have to live like it. Stereotypes become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
How can we make use of them? It allows us to fit in. The dominant ideology. It provides a way of life.

- A short cut (for producers)
- A reference point (for audiences)
- An expression of dominant societal values
Stereotypes can never actually exist. They are just the same as everything else in media. The big issue with stereotypes is that they are never true. Not everyone is going to be a certain way.
