First year suspense sequence
Definitions:
Editing is the manipulation of film.
A cut is where you merge two different scenes together. There is a break in-between these two shots.
A shot is an uninterrupted piece of film. Shots can be long or short. The effect of a long-take on the audience, is the building of expectation and suspense, because the audience is waiting for something to happen.
The editor begins on long takes and then goes into short-fire editing, this is because the editor is trying to create suspense and action. To make something appear faster, you decrease the length of each shot.
Mise-en-scene - means everything within the scene.
Things you may see within a film would be an actor, lighting, props and setting. (All of these things are apart of mise en scene.)
Cinematography (camerawork) - everything to do with the camera.
Low-angle shot - where the camera is below the subject. You would use a low-angle shot to make the subject look dominant, and like the main image.
High-angle shot - where the camera is above the subject. You would use a high-angle shot to express feelings; ie: scared and vulnerable.
Shot types: The distance from the camera to the subject.
Close-up - where the camera is very close to the subject
Long-shot - where the camera is far from the subject.
Mid-shot - where the camera is neither far or close. In the middle.
Extreme close-up - super close, such as when you can only see the eye of someone.
Positioning - the positioning of the camera and props is really important. Positioning is where the audience is placed. This is one of the primary ways which a producer can effect, challenge or involve the audience.
